Wives of Bollywood’s A-list stars, Gauri Khan and Suzzane Roshan might soon become partners in business. If buzz is to be believed, Sussanne and Gauri are planning to start a new joint venture of designing homes.

According to a source, “Sussanne is all set to start her own one-stop shop for interior design in Andheri. Meanwhile Gauri Khan, who is rather close to her, has been planning to work along with Sussanne. Apparently, both of them have already designed the home of a major businessman.”

The source further adds, “The duo had first collaborated when Sussanne was designing Mannat and Gauri had given quite a few creative inputs.”

Both SRK and Hrithik, who were once known to be major rivals, are now the best of friends and hang out at each others’ homes. SRK also loved Hrithik’s performance in Guzaarish and had invited him over to his house where both of them were seen hanging out last week.

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai made a rare appearance at an audio launch here and took many by surprise when she broke into fluent Tamil.

It wasn't just any audio launch but that of Tamil film Rettaichuzhi produced by Shankar, who is directing her opposite superstar Rajnikanth in Endhiran: The Robot.

Draped in a white sari, Aishwarya was at her courteous best at Sathyam Cinemas Monday evening as she got up to greet veteran directors K. Balachander and Bharathiraaja who play pivotal roles in the film.

Shankar said it was great to have Aishwarya as she hardly attended audio launches. He recalled that the former beauty queen wasn't present for the launch of his Jeans, one of her first hit films.

"When we explained to her the significance of Rettaichuzhi and the cast of the film, she immediately agreed. It's not just her beauty but her commitment towards her profession, which has made her a great actress," Shankar said.

The audio cassettes and CDs of Rettaichuzhi were released by Aishwarya and accepted by noted lyricist Vairamuthu, who once described her as a "Taj Mahal weighing 50 kilograms" in one of his lyrics for the film Jeans.

Aishwarya said she was proud to be part of the Tamil film fraternity and took many by surprise when she spoke in fluent Tamil and later switched backed to English.

"It's an honour for me to have been present at this place among legends like Balachander and Bharathiraaja and I feel proud about it. I also feel happy that a woman is treated so respectfully at a public function like this," she said.

"I can never forget the Tamil film industry
and director Shankar in my life. Shankar's Jeans was my first successful film. The many things I learnt during the making of the film gave me enough self-confidence that I could continue to act for a few more years.

"I feel even more proud to be part of Shankar's Endhiran opposite superstar Rajnikanth...I watched a few songs and some sequences from Rettaichuzhi...I think Karthick Raaja's music and tunes are excellent. I would surely watch the film in future," Aishwarya added.

Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia may have walked the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) ramp in a bridal lehenga by designer Jaya Rathore but the thought of marriage makes her nervous.

"People asked me backstage, 'when are you getting married?' But I was like, marriage is way too far in the future for me to even think about it, " Neha told in an interview.

"In fact, the thing that made me nervous the most about walking the ramp is that I was looking like a bride. What makes me nervous is the thought of marriage, what makes me even more nervous is walking the ramp... So it was a very bad combination, " she said.

Neha, who rose to fame after winning the Miss India crown in 2002, still feels jittery walking the ramp though she has been on the fashion umpteen number of times.

"I say 'Oh my God' 100 times before being on the ramp. I feel it's always good to be a little nervous, " she said.

Neha sported a mauve and orange, heavily embroidered lehenga with a ghoonghat in place on her head, like a coy bride. She said she would love to wear such a unique combination for her own wedding.

"I'm actually surprised to see that a play between orange, purple, blue and pink ended up looking so fantastic on a bridal piece. I think Jaya did a fabulous blend of it. People usually go for the same kind of colours, the pinks, reds and oranges... But after seeing today's outfits, I would definitely go for something like this, " she said.

After flaunting the ethnic garment, the 29-year-old, who is more of a Western dresser, said she might start wearing more of Indian clothes.

"I am not someone who is big on Indian clothes, I am somebody who is into Western clothes, something extremely casual when I am not sort of at work, or even when I am at work. It's nice to see myself in something as ethnic as this. I think I am going to make a habit of it, " said Neha.

She is now looking forward to the release of two of her films - "With Love To Obama" and "Action Replay".

"I am excited. One is really different from the other and that is going to bring a different side of me. One is a very retro film ('Action Replay') and my role in the other is funky as I play a village girl -- two things I have never seen myself do.

"I can talk about the roles closer to the release. I don't know which aspect the directors are going to bring out. One is a really a simple sweet girl. The other one is not so simple and not so sweet, " she said.

Preity Zinta, a popular Bollywood actress, has announced her adoption of 34 girls from the Mother Miracle orphanage in the Indian city of Rishikesh. Though the girls will not live with Zinta, all 34 girls will be financially supported by the actress, according to The Times of India. She plans to visit the girls twice a year and to keep in touch with them throughout the year.

In addition to the 34 girls, Preity Zinta plans to continue adopting orphaned girls. She will adopt a few girls each year, she said, in order to help with the enormous problem of orphaned and abandoned children in India.

In India, the combination of widespread poverty and a cultural preference for boys has led to a disproportionate number of girls abandoned at orphanages. With infanticide an enormous problem in the country, orphanages place cots outside their doors where babies can be abandoned. This has resulted in about 11 million children who have been abandoned by their parents. Among those abandoned children, about 90 percent are girls. The problem has become so widespread that India recently asked for more Western couples to consider adopting Indian children.

A reality television show based on ancient Hindu rituals is aiming to strike a blow against India’s tradition of arranged marriages.

Rakhi Sawant, a Bollywood dancer, actress and television host, has refused a union brokered by her parents. Instead, she has promised to find the perfect man herself — with the aid of a prime time TV series.

Rakhi Ka Swayamvar (Rakhi’s Search for a Husband) has attracted more than 12,500 aspirant grooms from across the subcontinent. The show is due to begin later this month but the outspoken celebrity’s promise to marry on air has already whipped up controversy in what remains a rigidly conservative country.

The show’s producers admit to being shocked when Ms Sawant first pitched the idea for the show — but they deny being part of a stunt designed purely to win ratings.

Rather, they insist, the message is one of female empowerment.

The series will be based on the ancient but now largely neglected practice of swayamvara, where a young woman picks a husband for herself from a group of hopeful suitors, often by putting them through a series of tests.

The most famous example appears in the Ramayana, the 2,500-year-old Sanskrit epic, with Ram, the Hindu god, chosen as a husband by the heroine Sita after he wins a trial of strength by bending the bow of Lord Shiva.

A recent survey by the International Institute for Population Sciences found that 95 per cent of marriages in India today are arranged by the families of the bride and groom. More than 70 per cent of married women between the ages of 15 and 24 said that they were never asked their views on their future husband before their wedding. About a quarter said that their first sexual experience within marriage was forced.

“Over the past 500 years girls in India have lost the right to ask questions about who they marry,” Shailja Kejriwal of NDTV Imagine, the channel that has created Rakhi Ka Swayamvar, said. “I really hope this series, which is all about a strong woman choosing her own husband, will address that. It’s about empowerment.”

Conservative Hindus, who have vehemently opposed the infiltration of Western cultural ideas into India, are almost certain to object.

A spokesman for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, India’s most powerful hardline Hindu group, made plain his disapproval of the series. “We prefer arranged marriages,” he told The Times. “They are part of an old and good tradition.”

For her part, 30-year-old Ms Sawant has said that she is looking for a husband who combines the best attributes of Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan — three hugely wealthy Bollywood superstars.

The producers admit that it probably rules out the thousands of would-be husbands who have applied to appear on the show from India’s poor rural villages.

“We have to be realistic,” Ms Kejriwal said. “The series will look for a compatible husband. I can’t see a celebrity like Rakhi marrying somebody from a village. That would be foolish.” The series’ creators are keeping the details of the selection methods secret, but say that they will be adapted from “ancient Vedic practices” — similar to those outlined in the Ramayana.

The audience will be asked to vote for a winner, but Ms Sawant will make the final decision on whom she marries, helped by friends, family and a psychologist. Contestants are now being vetted, with background checks being run on each man’s health and wealth.

Mukesh Bhatt’s dream of retaining Kangana Ranaut’s nude scene in Raaz - The Mystery Continues has come to naught. The Censor Board Committee which saw the film last night has ordered the nude scene to be deleted if Mukesh wants the film to see the light of day.

Also, Raaz has been given an A certificate. However, Mukesh has the option of approaching the Revising Committee of The Censor Board.

In this scene Kangana is attacked by the ghost for the first time. According to our sources Mukesh Bhatt, who was present at the screening, was livid with the Censors’ decision. There was a big argument between Mukesh and some members of the Board who refused to cow down.

Mumbai Mirror knew about the scene nearly 15 days back and asked Mukesh for a picture. But Mukesh had said, “I don’t want to release the picture as then I may have more difficulty in getting a U certificate for this film. I want a bigger audience for the film” They told him that irrespective of whether he gave them the picture or not, the censors would do their job anyway. But Mukesh did not part with the picture.

They then tried to persuade Kangana to get the picture, but even she was apprehensive about releasing the picture to the media.

Vinayak Azad (Regional Officer, Censor Board) confirmed on Friday evening that his panel has ordered Vishesh Films to delete Kangana’s nude scene. He said, “My officers have told me that they had told Vishesh films to delete the nude scene. Despite the deletion of the scene, the film will have an A certificate since there is a lot of horror content in it.”

One of the source clarified, “Obviously, Kangana did not shoot in the nude and she wore a body suit to create an illusion. But the Censors’ objection is valid since the viewer will definitely feel that Kangana is nude in the scene.”

Funnily, Mukesh Bhatt is still living in denial. After the channel person spoke to Vinayak Azad, he told them, ‘Raaz - The Mystery Continues‘ has got a UA certificate. We have not been asked to delete Kangana’s nude scene.”

Aamir Khan rewrote 'Ghajini' climax: Director Murugadoss

"We didn't make too many changes in the rest of the film. Every time I'd suggest a change in 'Ghajini' from the original, Aamir would firmly cut it down, saying we should stick to the Tamil script. But he decided we should rewrite the climax. The entire location, incidents and dialogues for the climax were re-written by Aamir. I think the Hindi version is far better than the Tamil 'Ghajini' because of the changes Aamir made," Murugadoss told IANS.

"Ghajini" has grossed nearly Rs.900 million/Rs.90 crores worldwide within just five days of its release, according to its distributors.

Whatever Murugadoss makes next, he has only one wish.

"I want Aamir to be my consultant. 'Ghajini' in Hindi would have been impossible without him. What he did to the climax was amazing. Now whatever I make I want Aamir's guidance. I don't know Hindi at all. But I knew the meaning of the Tamil words and groped my way through the Hindi dialogues in 'Ghajini'. Every time I was stuck on a word or line, I'd call up Aamir. I've learnt so much from him," said the litterateur-turned-filmmaker.

Murugadoss has several short-story anthologies in Tamil to his credit.

Though many people in Mumbai feel the title role in "Ghajini" should have been played by a better-known actor, Murugadoss is happy with Pradeep Rawat. "He is not entirely unknown in Hindi cinema. He played the Sardar-ji in 'Lagaan'."

The director, however, admits he felt a little out of place in Mumbai initially.

"But today a filmmaker is not restricted to any one region. 'Ghajini' has gone so smoothly from Tamil to Hindi. Now I want to take a break, visit my native town Kallakurichi near Chennai and come back to sign my second Hindi film."

While "Ghajini" has an overdose of violence, Murugadoss says he now wants to direct a totally non-violent film in Hindi.

"My next Hindi film will be an out-and-out love story. There won't be even a slap in the narrative. I've acquired the reputation of being a violent director. But apart from 'Ghajini', all my films are soft and gentle."

Murugadoss' earlier Tamil films include "Ramana" (2002) and "Dheena" (2001). He has also made Telugu movie "Stalin" (2006).

She comes from a family of Bollywood stalwarts right from her great grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor, grandfather Raj Kapoor, father Randhir Kapoor, mother Babita and elder sister Karisma Kapoor.

All about the coolest Kapoor

In 2001, Kareena did a variety of films like Yaadein, Ajnabee, Asoka, Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham - all of which had her playing distinctive characters. But she witnessed a slump in 2002-03 after doing movies such as Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Jeena Sirf Mere Liye, Talaash: The Hunt Begins, Khushi, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon and the four-hour J P Dutta war epic LoC Kargil.

In early 2004, she bounced back with her role as a prostitute in Sudhir Mishra's Chameli. She also covered up for her two-year slump by doing more serious roles like the one in Dev.

Kareena made it big with films such as Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara and Imtiaz Ali's comedy-romance Jab We Met opposite Shahid Kapur.

But critics' expectations were soon crushed with her recent film Tashan that bombed at the box office. But Adarsh differs. "I don't think Tashan was a bad film for Kareena since her performance was very good in that too. I think she is a brilliant actress and looks superb on screen," he said.

Now the actress has a bevy of films lined up for release including Roadside Romeo, Golmaal Returns, Kambakth Ishq, Main Aur Mrs Khanna and Three Idiots.

Apart from her acting , her personal life has also made much news. Kareena's three-year relationship with Shahid Kapur ended last year. She then started dating Saif after love blosommed on the sets of Tashan.

One-film-old Imran Khan - hero of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - comes with a price tag of Rs 7 crore for his next film, according to the latest Bollywood trade buzz. Jaane Tu ..., which has collected Rs 30 crore approximately in just one week, has taken the nation by storm and catapulted its hero to super-stardom.

- Shahid Kapoor, after the super-success of Vivaah and Jab We Met , which he has followed up with the "safe" Kismet Konnection , is now a bankable star with a Rs-8-crore tag.

- Even one-film-old Ranbir Kapoor - who started with a not-too-successful Saawariya - now comes with a price tag of Rs 6 crore and is currently riding a wave, having bagged films with Prakash Jha, Raj Kumar Santoshi, Mani Ratnam, Yashraj Films and Karan Johar.

Big money is back in Bollywood, with stars - and even those who are only starting off on the long journey that may or may not end in stardom - jacking up their rates.

"Money is the new obsession that has taken over Bollywood," says director Mahesh Bhatt. "It wasn't as if our predecessors were not materialistic but they did not drool over money the way the current generation does every time you mention the word," he adds.

So, at a time when one-film successes (and failures) are charging eight-digit figures, it is only natural that the established are going to charge a bomb. The latest rumour to take Bollywood by storm has it that Akshay Kumar has been signed by Studio 18 for a figure that is more than Rs 50 crore (this figure includes a 30 per cent share in profits and a stake in the film's intellectual property rights) and Aneez Bazmee has been paid Rs 15 crore. This follows the excitement generated by the Akshay-Anees Bazmee combination in Singh Is Kingg , the worldwide rights of which have been picked up by Studio 18 for Rs 62 crore.

Singh Is Kingg producer Vipul Shah says: "Akshay Kumar is generating mass hysteria right now and even his television show, Khatron Ke Khiladi , has got a huge start. But I wouldn't like to comment on the price issue because some really crazy price talk has been doing the rounds."

Trade insiders say Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, despite the debacle of Tashan , have been picked up at a price of Rs 27 crore by Ashtavinayak Films (though Aashtavinayak spokesperson Parag Desai has refused to confirm the amount). The industry is abuzz with talk that Saif and Kareena, who are marketing themselves as a package, have already been paid the signing amount of Rs 7.5 crore and will give dates to the Ashtavinayak project in the summer of 2009.

The Bhatt camp's stars - Mallika Sherawat, Emran Hashmi and Shiney Ahuja - are also riding on the good times. Sherawat is asking for Rs 1.5 crore because her Ugly Aur Pagli - made on a modest budget of Rs 5 crore - has been sold to Percept Picture Company for Rs 6 crore. "PPC will make a killing with this film," says a Bollywood insider. "It has reportedly paid Rs 6 crore to Pritish Nandy Communications. And, even before the film has released, it is being offered Rs 5 crore for the film's satellite rights. PPC is expected to push the satellite price to Rs 9 crore. So they've already made a profit even before the film hits theatres this August," the industry experts add.

Emraan Hashmi, post-Jannat, has reportedly been paid Rs 5.5 crore by Percept Picture Company; Shiney Ahuja is demanding Rs 7 crore post-Gangster and Bhool Bhuliya (in which he plays second fiddle to Akshay Kumar); and Bobby Deol will not even read a script unless he is paid a signing amount of Rs 2 crore (his price, according to industry grapevine, is Rs 5 crore a film).

If my dear readers recall, I wrote about this last year also, however, it was just an assumption that time.

But now, it's official!!

Cinematical is reporting that Shilpa Shetty has signed to play a character called Devi in the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace!

Shilpa, best known for her dignified response to an avalanche of abuse from a group of other inmates, in the last Celebrity Big Brother, has appeared in around 50 Hindi-language productions, but the James Bond outing would represent her first Hollywood role.

Little is known yet, about the scope of the character - whether it's a significant part or a cameo - but it's undoubtedly the kind of thing Shilpa was shooting for, when she entered the Big Brother circus.

Known for his love triangle stories, director Lawrence D'Souza is back with a bang.

He wants to recreate the magic of his film Saajan.

"Yes I am back and am planning to revive the Sanjay, Salman and Madhuri starrer Saajan. My writers Rajiv Kaul and Praful Parikh are working on a script. It will be a love triangle. The backdrop of Saajan was Ooty while this film will have a backdrop of Kashmir," he informs.

Saajan had an interesting pairing of Sanjay Dutt, Salman and Madhuri Dixit and it is believed that Lawrence is now planning to sign John Abraham, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut for the main leads.

He confirms, "Yes I want this star cast as its apt for my script. My heroine is a Kashmiri girl and Kangana fits the bill."
